Chapter Nineteen
PAUL SIGHED as Andrew disappeared. He wished he could take more of the burden, but there was no way he could help Andrew through the emotional stuff, apart from support. He pulled the rissoles from the fridge and vowed not to look at the ingredients. Being a body-conscious, health-conscious, self-indulgent single man, he often ate top-quality food like grass-fed T-bone steak with several servings of organically grown vegetables. He had a feeling the rissoles in the tray would be packed with things he didn’t want to put in his body, which meant the kids would love them.
The Scotch was still on the top shelf in the pantry, so he poured a finger for Andrew and topped it up with the flat leftover Coke from the previous night. He checked the kids and walked the drink to Andrew where he was showering.
He followed the noise to the en suite bathroom. Andrew was under the spray, and the image immediately brought to mind that scene all those months before when Paul saw Andrew in the shower with that other guy. He was instantly aroused, thinking that now he was the guy. He was the only one fucking this beautiful man. He was the man Andrew rang when he needed help.
“Here. I thought you might need this,” Paul said as he placed the glass on the cabinet next to the sink. Andrew turned and looked surprised. The glass surrounding the shower was steamy and water droplets ran down walls. Paul could see some—but not all—which fired his imagination more than if Andrew were standing naked in front of him.
He dropped his hopeful gaze downward but was unable to see much more than dark shadow. When he looked up, his gaze clashed with Andrew’s. There was a hooded look on Andrew’s face.
“We can’t,” he grumbled, and Paul wrinkled his nose in disappointment.
“I know. But I can perv, can’t I?” Paul allowed a masculine growl to enter his tone. He couldn’t see Andrew’s groin through the steam, but the way his hand dropped to cover that area told him all he needed to know.
Paul overexaggerated his sigh and said, “Fine. Now don’t be too long, because the rissoles are cooking.”
Lilah was a treat, and she helped Paul find all the necessary items—like place settings, plastic tumblers for her and Jeremy, and the tomato sauce. Lilah transferred the plated rissoles to the table for him, and he pulled out the salad he’d prepared.
Paul checked on Jeremy and gave his forehead a kiss. It was hot, but not the sky-high temperature of two hours previous. “Well, Germy? How are you feeling? Do you want to come and have something to eat with Daddy and Lilah and me?”
Jeremy gave him a look that contained so much misery that Paul’s heart broke. This little tyke was feeling terrible, and his mum had recently walked out on him. Paul scooped him up. “C’mon. You can sit on my lap this time. Okay? Daddy had lots of cuddles, so now it’s my turn.
